Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

How do I use your site?
The design of this site is meant to introduce you to the wittiest, most informative, and mischeiveous sites on the Internet and make it easy for you to check on them regularly.

Featured links are divided into two overall catagories, Gossip and Offbeat. There are seperate index pages for each, and the links to "child" pages are on those index pages. All links open in a new window.

On the child pages, the "nutshell description" heading is meant to give you an idea of what each site is about and why it was selected. On the right border of each child page are two to four quotes from individual sites, meant to give you some flavor of them and the general tone and intent of that page. These quotes are not necessarily from the most current posting of the linked site.

How were Slathered's featured sites selected? And is the Slathered Index updated?
At the time of this site's creation, more than half the sites on this page had not been linked anywhere else. We noticed that. One of the points of Slathered is to turn web users on to the growing number of cool sites that have been created. And it's not very easy to find them.

Comprehensive portals such as Yahoo may include many of them but the expense is spending hours sifting through ones which don't interest you. Users of Slathered best share our sensibilities, which includes our specific fascination with gossip and the web's influence on this genre.

Knowing that selections presently are entirely subjective, Slathered's users are part of the subjective team. Gossip Pot message boards are there for ANY and ALL sites that you think may be of interest for Slathered viewers. Some of those sites will be selected for inclusion on Slathered's Index. This site is continuously updated and relies heavily on your contributions.

How can I submit my own site for possible inclusion on Slathered?

For each of Slathered's featured links, at least a hundred others were considered. In other words, we are careful to keep up with what's fresh and good (from our view) on the web.

Slathered continuously NEEDS your input, either via the Gossip Pot message board (linked at the bottom of each page) or e-mail.

Now that the web is finally getting loaded with good stuff, it's harder to learn of ALL of the coolest sites. So friggin get in touch with your picks or URL.

Some of your links lead deep inside peoples' web sites. What about the rest of their sites?

Slathered's links lead directly to our favorite page or section of every site (or a single click from that). However, in the case of a newspaper or other larger site, also take a step back and look at the entire site (parent site) as well. They're usually worthwhile as well.

Example: If the link is www.observer.com/observatory, try and make it around to  www.observer.com as well.

Why does a link sometimes not connect to a page?

Please tell us of any "dead" links. Webmasters continuously change around their sites and if we don't catch the change then our link becomes outdated. In addition, you will note that some Slathered links lead only to a menu of several pages, rather than straight to the featured link, requiring you to select from that menu to get to the featured link. That reflects a trend among publication webmasters to get viewers to check out more of their pages. Sorry bout that, we are not advanced enough to navigate around that trick. Any ideas on that, get in touch.
