| As a New Yorker who lived in Hanoi for three years, I have have -- as they say -- seen some things. Here are a few. Some of the items were first prepared for an (anonymous) gossip column I wrote, with the enthusiastic contributions of many tipsters, for a business magazine which I co-founded in 1994 (and left after five years). Everyday life in Vietnam is ruled by disparity, irony and secrets. For an expat, throw in the culture clash. Often tricky to convey in a straight business story. Tonkin Gossip helped.
