Tech Bits
This finger-to-the-pulse log and newsletter has bet the farm on staying at the front line
of technology: it is produced by a tech/internet consultancy named "Technology
Front." "Tasty Bits from the Technology Front" is smartly written, with the
flair of a confident, clever journalist ... commentary, reader contributions and links of
interests, like advertising trends and viruses. |
G'Day, Silicon Valley
Professional (as opposed to
most), attitude-heavy morning tech news roundup. This Merc Center tech news site
also reports on foreign techs and IPOs. Very readable. |
Cypherpunks
Reading through this takes a bit of a
commitment but one gets the feeling that regulars on this five-year-old message
board/searchable archive are deep inside the realm of "crypto and tech."
Lots of hacker and other sysop issues are batted back and forth -- many target
"spamming," appropriate considering that this board is practically strangled by
e-flotsam. |
uCyberScene
Courtney Pulitzer
Whoa!!! Major duty Internet gossip etc. from New York, Seattle, Austin, Australia,
Vancouver - even frickin' India! Lists dates of "Cocktails with Courtney."
Don't burn out, sister. |
uDavenetics
The sole exception to Slathered's policy of
listing only web sites, not e-newsletters ( to make Slathered easier to use). But daily
Dave's newsletter has this feature called "headline collector." About 100
tech links with a bit of pointed, sly commentary. For a price, he'll customize a
newsletter for your biz. |
uInternet.com
Practically combatively comprehensive,
yet so organized and truly useful it's addictive. Too many features to list here -- and
many are list-based (14 overall subjects, or "channels") -- but we especially
like internet news
and internet stocks.
This CT company is buying up a healthy chunk of what's cool in the wired world -- you
might want to follow its stock. |
PCWeek
Spencer F. Katt
This guy loves the Internet and being
witty about it. Funny, though his last name puns begin to grate at his credibility
(doest thou take me for a Fool?!) Like
most economy pundits, best read when the market is up. |
Movers,
Shakers
Chris Nolan
SV-based tech reporter dropped by
SJMN for actually profiting from what she learned? Now that's got
our attention. Very comfy with an intimidating beat. |
Useit.com
Jakob Nielsen, Ph.D
This smart guy (if you don't believe us, check out his photo) is not only the self-proclaimed
king of "usable information technology" -- e.g., getting surfers to go to and
stay at your web site -- he's also been deigned web design guru status by all the mavens
(Slashdot, NYT...). Parody of Sr. Linux percolating here. |

"...The packed Scheming Media party at Velvet
Lounge on Mulberry Street on Wednesday, May 17, drew content and media folks from all
around. Simon Feldman of Content Arts and Gregg Weiss were going over some VR work on his
laptop and standing not far off were Esther Goette (Agency.com strategist), Claudia Nitz
(Bauer Publishing) and Isabel Kirsch of Rosa.com..."
"Silicon Valley startup
Google.com says its search engine is based on a patent-pending technology that 'performs
an objective measurement of the importance of Web pages and is calculated by solving an
equation of 500 million variables and more than 2 billion terms.' How, then, to
explain this: A reader's search for the phrase 'more evil than Satan himself' returned
Microsoft's home page as the first result."
